Cast Iron Wears you Down

Cast iron may machine easily on the surface, but beneath that, it’s brutal on inserts. Abrasive graphite microstructures accelerate flank wear. Scale and inclusions cause chipping. Interrupted cuts hammer the edge on common parts like gears, and unpredictable part geometry demands consistent performance across a wide range of conditions. Add in the need for burr control, surface finish, and chip evacuation, and you’ve got a material group that punishes generic tooling.

Engineered for Each Cut

Kyocera’s CA410K and CA415K grades are purpose-built to meet these demands head-on. CA410K is optimized for continuous machining, featuring a high-hardness surface layer and durable CVD coating stack that resists wear even at elevated speeds. CA415K is tuned for interrupted and heavy-duty cuts, with a tough carbide core and mesh-processed coating to suppress delamination and enhance edge integrity. Together, they cover a broad cast iron spectrum supported by a wide chipbreaker lineup for everything from fine finishing to roughing.

BLACK + GOLD COATING

Optimized coating properties on the rake and flank faces deliver a precise balance of wear resistance and fracture toughness for reliable performance in demanding cast iron applications.
