KYOCERA introduces PM335S, a new indexable milling grade developed for one of the toughest jobs on the shop floor: titanium alloys and other difficult-to-cut materials.
Titanium is hard on inserts. Vibration runs high, heat concentrates at the cutting edge, wear moves fast, and serrated chips create shifting cutting loads that lead to chipping. PM335S is engineered to handle all of it, helping machinists run longer, more stable cuts without stopping to swap inserts mid-job.
PM335S pairs a high-toughness carbide substrate with a high-toughness nano multi-layer coating. Most grades force a trade-off between fracture resistance and wear resistance. PM335S delivers both, so the cutting edge holds up against the impact and edge loading of titanium while resisting the heat-driven wear that shortens tool life.
The result is longer, more predictable tool life in titanium and superalloys. In customer testing on Ti-6Al-4V pocketing, ME90 inserts in PM335S remained in usable condition after twice the machining time of the previous grade, PR1835. Fewer insert changes mean less downtime, more consistent production runs, and lower cost per part.
